Chief Fund-Raiser Appointed by CSI
Staten Island Advance - Thursday, November 15,
2007
In a move to strengthen community relations, the College of Staten
Island has named Stapleton resident and lifelong Islander Robert
Huber as its chief fund-raiser and public liaison, while revamping
his new department.
Huber has been appointed interim vice president for institutional
advancement by CSI President Dr. Tomas D. Morales. He replaces
Richard Truitt, who resigned earlier this month to pursue other
opportunities.
Huber, a member of former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's cabinet and
assistant finance commissioner under former Mayor David N. Dinkins,
had been the Willowbrook college's director of communications and
marketing.
Historically, the institutional advancement office's main task has
been fund-raising. But in a restructuring, Huber also will oversee
other public-related functions such as government relations, alumni
relations, media, marketing and CSI's home page on the Web.
"This is aimed at coordinating and harmonizing our approach to the
community at large," Huber, a former senior public-affairs director
with three Fortune 50 companies, said yesterday. "I was very
flattered and honored to be asked by Dr. Morales to do this. The
idea of doing so in my home community is very gratifying."
In a statement, Dr. Morales, who assumed leadership of the
12,500-student public college in August, praised Truitt, saying he
had "significantly increased" CSI's financial resources.
The president also lauded Huber and Kenneth Bach, who will serve as
interim director of communications and marketing.
"I look forward to working with our new team, and with faculty,
staff, and students to advance our college and its mission," said
Dr. Morales.
