Councilman Announces $799G in Funding for CSI

Staten Island Advance - Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Earlier this afternoon, Staten Island Councilman James Oddo was at the College of Staten Island's softball complex to announce that he has secured $799,000 in funding for the Willowbrook school.

Oddo (R-Mid-Island/Brooklyn) was joined at the event by the school's president, Tomas Morales, David Podell (Provost/Sr. VP for Academic Affairs), Joyce Taylor (Deputy VP for Information Technology), Jason Fein (Director of Athletics), Director of Communications Bob Huber and the CUNY champion women's softball team.

Of the $799,000 secured by the councilman, $500,000 will be used for the expansion of CSI's "Smart Classroom" project, a global virtual classroom distance learning studio, as well as the next step in implementing CUNY's Athena Supercomputer at CSI, which is the most powerful computing complex in the metropolitan area.

Money will also be dispersed for lighting at the softball complex ($289,000) and $5,000 each for the John Marchi Visiting Scholarship Program and the Center for the Study of Staten Island.
