
Councilman Announces $799G in Funding for CSI

Earlier this afternoon, Staten Island Councilman James Oddo was at
the College of Staten Island's softball complex to announce that he
has secured $799,000 in funding for the Willowbrook school.
Oddo (R-Mid-Island/Brooklyn) was joined at the event by the school's
president, Tomas Morales, David Podell (Provost/Sr. VP for Academic
Affairs), Joyce Taylor (Deputy VP for Information Technology), Jason
Fein (Director of Athletics), Director of Communications Bob Huber
and the CUNY champion women's softball team.
Of the $799,000 secured by the councilman, $500,000 will be used for
the expansion of CSI's "Smart Classroom" project, a global virtual
classroom distance learning studio, as well as the next step in
implementing CUNY's Athena Supercomputer at CSI, which is the most
powerful computing complex in the metropolitan area.
Money will also be dispersed for lighting at the softball complex
($289,000) and $5,000 each for the John Marchi Visiting Scholarship
Program and the Center for the Study of Staten Island.
