College of Staten Island
Calls on Its Seniors to Honor Outstanding High School Teachers
Staten Island, NY – September
20, 2005 - The College of Staten Island/CUNY (CSI) is calling on
its seniors to nominate high school teachers who have made a
significant impact on their lives. Potential candidates include
teachers who played a role in a student’s future plans, one who made
a subject come alive, or someone who challenged a student to excel
beyond his or her expectations.
Nominations will provide the basis for consideration of the high
school teacher. A selection committee, comprising three CSI faculty
members, three students, and one College administrator, will then
select two winning educators who will each receive $1,000, and will
be honored at the Student Awards ceremony that is held during
Commencement week. In addition, the honorees will be invited to the
Commencement ceremony.
CSI Vice President for Student Affairs, Carol Jackson tells CSI
seniors, "We really want to make this first year a great success. So
please take the time to jog your memory. Devoted high school
teachers do not receive sufficient recognition, and we at
CSI would like to change that a little by rewarding two of them this
coming June."
Students can pick up nomination forms in the College’s Office of
Student Affairs in Building 1A, Room 301. Interested seniors can
also call the office at 1.718.982.2335 for more information.
The College of Staten Island is a senior college of The City
University of New York, the nation’s leading urban university. CSI
offers 35 academic programs, 15 graduate degree programs, and
challenging doctoral programs to 12,600 students.
The 204-acre landscape campus of CSI, the largest in NYC, is fully
accessible and contains an advanced, networked infrastructure to
support technology-based teaching, learning, and research. For more
